Vanessa Royal

Vanessa Royal is an Alabama-born painter whose work is driven by storytelling, emotion, and the expressive power of color. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and was introduced to painting at an early age. Her artistic development was shaped through years of watercolor study throughout the Appalachian region and mentorship from artists in the Boone, North Carolina area. She later expanded her practice to include oils and acrylics.

Before returning to visual art professionally, Royal spent a decade as a singer-songwriter in Nashville, where the discipline of songwriting shaped her approach to storytelling and emotional expression in her artwork.

In 2022, during a meaningful career transition, Royal made the intentional decision to return to painting professionally as a way to slow down, reconnect with family, and explore art as a tool for reflection and healing. Her paintings often draw inspiration from quiet moments—still life arrangements, landscapes, and symbolic scenes that invite viewers to pause and find meaning in the everyday.

An avid traveler, Royal and her husband Jeff frequently backpack through Europe, collecting photographs, stories, and impressions that later influence her work. Their travels, along with life on a lake in central Alabama, continue to shape her appreciation for place, memory, and atmosphere.

Royal is also deeply committed to the arts in her community. For more than a decade, she has been involved in supporting the growth of the Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts in Wetumpka, Alabama, a scenic river town whose natural beauty and creative energy continue to inspire her work.

Through her paintings, Royal hopes not only to capture beauty but also to create pieces that carry purpose—art that tells a story, evokes emotion, and invites reflection in a fast-moving world.
